Montage To Bring First Ultra Luxury Resort And Residences To Big Sky Montana

Real Estate

Montage International, the hotel and resort management company behind the brand, Montage Hotels & Resorts, will open a resort with a hotel and residences in Big Sky, Montana.

Currently under construction, Montage Big Sky will be the first ultra-luxury five-star resort in the entire state. Located at Spanish Peaks Mountain Club, a private ski and golf course community set on more than 3,530-acres of pristine Montana wilderness, Montage Big Sky will offer luxurious guest rooms, suites and turn-key residences with five-star amenities putting it on par with the top ski and golf resort destinations in the country. It is scheduled to open in 2021.

“As Big Sky’s first ultra-luxury resort, there is truly nothing of its kind at the destination,” says Tina Necrason, Senior Vice President, Residential at Montage International. “We feel privileged to be part of a really special and authentic place. We are honored to have the opportunity to pay homage to the great American west, the history of Montana and celebrate an amazing destination that offers everything—-ski, golf, as well as untouched and beautiful natural surroundings with endless outdoor pursuits in mind.”

Centrally located within Big Sky’s 3,530-acre Spanish Peaks enclave, the hotel and its residences will have ski-in, ski-out access to the entirety of Big Sky Resort, a world-class ski destination.

A Luxury Experience That Is Not Pretentious

The $400 million resort will feature 150 guest rooms and suites and 39 Residences. Montage Big Sky will offer luxury without being pretentious, explains Christensen. “Part of that is the Montana ethos,” Eric Christensen, Executive Vice President Hospitality at Lone Mountain Land Company, the developer behind the resort. “Nobody is here to impress anyone. Most people are here for the outdoors. It is about being outside and what nature has to offer.”

The design of the hotel and residences are “mountain modern” with aesthetics inspired by the natural setting and a timeless palette of materials including regional woods and stones.  “The design effortlessly blends rustic mountain aesthetic with modern touches to create a timeless sensibility,” says Necrason.

Montage’s generously-sized 39 residences are being designed with families in mind with flexible layouts that feature two to six bedrooms. Sales have officially launched for the residences that are priced from $5.76 million to $18.1 million. The residences, some of which will be duplexes, will range in size from 2,271 square feet to 8,145 square feet. Individual floor plans can be seen at this link.

Each Residence offers Montage’s striking contemporary design with features and aesthetics inspired by the local setting. The residences will capture the beauty of the mountains with expansive windows and outdoor space, clean contemporary design lines as well as generously appointed appliances, fixtures and luxury millwork and interior details. The Residences will be  complete with designer finishes and lighting, fireplaces in the living room and master bedroom, and well-appointed open concept kitchens including custom cabinets, stone detail and high-end Sub-Zero and Wolf appliances.

Owners will have the option to select a curated design scheme and have a turn-key residence that will include everything from the dish ware to linens and art work on the walls. Many residences will include a lock-off feature as well affording the opportunity to utilize space commensurate with use. Homeowners will have access to dedicated underground parking, an owner storage area and a ski locker in a residential locker room.

The Montage Rental Program

Montage Big Sky will offer an optional rental program for its homeowners who wish to earn income when they are not using their units. Those wishing to participate in the rental program have the option to purchase a pre-selected, turn-key option or work with the developer to personalize elements of a home ensuring it meets the requirements of Montage’s rental program.

Montage will manage and service a residence while the homeowner is away and provide owners with advantages and benefits of renting their home commensurate with their use. “The program is fully flexible and allows owners to enjoy their home for special times they choose and the other time they recognize those benefits of having Montage rent their home on their behalf,” says Necrason. “They have the peace of mind that when they lock the door and leave Montage is looking after their home.”

Five-Star Amenities

Montage’s homeowners and guests will have access to Spanish Peaks Mountain Club’s 18-hole Tom Weiskopf-designed golf course, a private course situated on 300 acres of gently rolling terrain. The course is known for its spectacular 40-mile views that include the Spanish Peaks and Gallatin Range, as well as the Absaroka and Beartooth peaks of Yellowstone National Park. Located at an elevation of more than 7,000 feet, no two fairways border each other and the course is almost 1.5 miles in length at its greatest expanse.

Guests and residents will also have access to the resort’s extensive network of hiking and mountain biking trails and its Private Fish Camp located on 4 miles of private river (not to mention the world-class fly fishing available at the nearby Yellowstone National Park).

“Blending Montage’s existing culture and execution of unscripted, welcoming and gracious service with unparalleled proximity to outdoor amenities—-we are offering something very special to future homeowners and visitors alike,” says Necrason.

Residents will enjoy true effortless second home living with a dedicated staff, personalized concierge services, pre-arrival provisioning, property management and an exclusive resident’s lounge. Hotel amenities include several restaurants, including one that serves three-meals, a pub, café, and a pool grill (open during summer and winter seasons). There will also be a lobby bar and lounge, market, and recreation room with bowling alley, in addition to an indoor lap pool, family swimming pool, fitness center, ski lockers and skier services.

The hotel will offer Montage’s signature, Spa Montage, a full-service 16,000-square-foot spa with twelve treatment rooms, an interior lap pool, relaxation lounge, salon, and direct access to the outdoor pool and hot tubs.

There will also be 12,870 sq. ft. of meeting and event space at the hotel as well as an immersive children’s program, Paintbox.

In addition to the impressive range of features offered by the hotel, owners of Montage residences will have full access to all of the amenities of Spanish Peaks Mountain Club, including its 32,000-square-foot private clubhouse which features a full-service dining room, fitness facility, swimming pool, golf and ski shop, children’s center, and storage for ski equipment.

As members of Spanish Peaks Mountain Club, homeowners will also receive reciprocal access to The Reserve, Moonlight Basin’s 18-hole Jack Nicklaus Signature Course described by Nicklaus, as being the most beautiful course he’s ever designed.

Montage Big Sky will be open all year round (apart from a three-week closure when routine maintenance will take place).

World-Class Skiing

Guests and residents of Montage Big Sky will have access to 5,850 acres of world-class terrain that features 300 runs and 36 chair lifts (with more planned for the future) on four connected mountains in addition to Nordic and snowshoe trails. The mountain has an elevation of 11,166 feet at its summit.

Big Sky is never crowded because there is no large local population in close proximity, unlike Whistler and Vail, he adds. “And there is almost never a lift line because there is so much terrain and capacity relative to the number of people who are here,” says Christensen.

The second-largest ski resort in the United States by acreage, Big Sky is also known for its average annual snowfall of more than 400 inches. “The quality of the snow is among the best because of the cold, dry conditions,” adds Christensen.
