Four Australian startups raised a combined $31 million this week, according to SmartCompany’s funding round-up.

Sydney’s MP Space raised $23 million in seed funding, led by Blackbird, to build spacecraft power systems in Australia. The money will go to manufacturing and growing its engineering team.

Adelaide AI robotics startup Metacognition received $5 million from Airtree, lifting its pre-seed round to $15 million.

Sydney’s Copy Geek raised $2 million pre-seed for a crypto copy-trading engine, and Melbourne’s Forward Deployed raised $1 million from Innovation Victoria and Swinburne University for its chemical threat detection system.

What it means for your money

Funding rounds show where investors see growth: space, AI and defence-related tech. For everyday investors, early-stage startups are high risk and rarely accessible, so treat the headlines as a trend signal rather than a tip, and keep your portfolio diversified.
