Qatar Airways has confirmed it will fly to Western Sydney International Airport from late 2027, becoming the fifth foreign airline to serve the new airport.
The service to Doha will start at three flights a week, with the airline aiming to move to daily flights by the end of 2028. It will use Boeing 777-300ER aircraft with 354 seats. Flights from Doha land in western Sydney at 11.45pm, and the return leg leaves at 4.10pm the next day.
Other international carriers already lined up are Air New Zealand, Singapore Airlines, Vietjet and Fiji Airways. Qantas and Jetstar will run domestic flights, with Jetstar operating the first commercial flight on Sunday, 25 October.
The airport used part of a $16 million International Take-Off Fund, backed by the airport and the NSW Government, to help support the Qatar launch. An aviation professor said the late start gives the airport time to build its catchment. Tickets go on sale in December.
What it means for your money
More airlines flying out of western Sydney could mean more fare competition and a shorter trip to the airport for many households. Tickets for this route don’t go on sale until December, so there is nothing to book yet, but it’s worth comparing options once fares appear.
