The Views From This Seaside Norway Condo Will Take Your Breath Away

The explosion of views from this modern waterfront condominium on Norway’s island of Tromsøya is a feast for the eyes: the ocean, fjords, the iconic church known as the Arctic Cathedral and majestic mountains.

Yet, despite the feeling of being enveloped by awe-inspiring beauty, the harborfront setting in old town Tromsø is at the city center. “Close to restaurants, wine bars and the Polar Museum,” says Magnus Bonnemark of Shaza Luxury Real Estate. “At the same time, a very quiet and tranquil neighborhood.”

Shops and eateries are a four-minute walk away while the foot of Fløya mountain can be reached within 25 minutes. Alternatively, Bonnemark notes, “You can get picked up by boat at the dock of the building.”

Within 40 minutes are kayaking, fishing, hiking and wild berry picking. “This is the magic of Tromsø,” Bonnemark says. “Urban and nature are outside the doorstep.”

The vibrant city of Tromsø has been called “the land of the midnight sun” and “the gateway to the Arctic,” and rightly so. Northern Norway’s largest urban area is 350 kilometers―nearly 220 miles―north of the Arctic Circle. In the summertime, there are days when the sun never sets. In winter, the northern lights illuminate the skies.

In addition to floor-to-ceiling expanses of glass, two balconies in the unit capture the views: one faces the city and the other looks out to the sea and mountains.

At the heart of the 178 square meters (more than 1,900 square feet) of living space is an expansive open-plan room divided into two seating areas, a bar, dining area, office and kitchen. Finishes include European oak, walnut and solid brass.

One of the two guest bedrooms has balcony access, and the primary suite features an elaborate walk-in closet. Wood floors and ceilings add a cozy vibe to the three bedrooms. There are a total of two bathrooms.

Although well-suited for a primary or secondary residence, the unit “would be a perfect pied-à-terre,” says Bonnemark, who sees the space appealing to “someone who would like a place to retreat to, to completely relax and enjoy nature and beautiful scenery.” He shares the listing with Shaza’s Beqo Hoti.

The asking price for Søndre Tollbodgate 15A in Tromsø is €2.3 million or about USD 2.47 million. Amenities in the six-story building include a shared rooftop deck and electric car charging.
