Vexin Français Regional Nature Park is an unspoiled expanse of woods, meadows, villages and rivers crisscrossed with walking trails. Set between Paris and Normandy, its natural beauty was the inspiration for Impressionists such as Vincent Van Gogh, Paul Cézanne and Charles-François Daubigny, among others.

This 15th-century chateau sits at the edge of the parkland, which measures 71,000 hectares or about 275 square miles. The historically designated castle-like main structure is surrounded by restored checkerboard-patterned ramparts and a walled courtyard with topiary, lawn and a central century-old tree.

Red paint on the doors and window frames pop against the sand-colored stone exteriors.

The five-floor chateau sits on a vaulted cellar and has 728 square meters, or  more than 7,800 square feet, of living space.  Outbuildings include a guest house, a caretaker’s cottage with a cellar and a 44-square-meter (474-square-foot) freestanding dovecote.

The interiors of high exposed-beam ceilings, parquet floors and a stone staircase have been decorated in a mix of period and contemporary styles.

The chateau’s ground floor, which has an elevator, contains an entrance hall, the living room, a library, a dining room, the kitchen, and a laundry room. The formal dining room features stone floors and a baronial fireplace.

Above that is another living room and library as well as two bedrooms with a bathroom. The top three floors each have two rooms with a bathroom for a total of eight bedrooms.

The tastefully decorated bedroom suites have such features as beamed ceilings, sitting areas, window seats and stand-alone soaking tubs.

Other features include an alarm system, outdoor lighting, an automatic watering system and a well.

The grounds encompass 2.6 hectares of 6.5 acres of parkland covered with mature trees.
