IRS Will Open Offices On Some Saturdays To Provide Free Tax Help

Taxes

The IRS has announced it will open several Taxpayer Assistance Centers (TACs) around the country this Saturday, April 8, for face-to-face help available from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. An additional Saturday opening is planned for May 13.

“During these special openings, taxpayers can get walk-in service for in-person help on many tax matters,” said IRS Wage & Investment Division Commissioner and Taxpayer Experience Officer Ken Corbin. “These extra weekend hours are to enable the nation’s taxpayers to effectively resolve their tax account concerns in ways that are most convenient for them.”

No Appointment Needed

Normally, TACs require taxpayers to make appointments in advance. On these particular Saturday opens, walk-ins will be accepted for all office services, except for making cash payments.

Saturday opens have been popular in past years. According to a recent TIGTA audit of the previous tax filing season, IRS served 5,217 taxpayers in the 35 TACs that were open on the first two monthly Saturday dates. For the second two Saturdays, they served 5,406 taxpayers at the 40 TACs open on April 9, 2022, and 4,251 taxpayers at the 42 TACs open on May 14, 2022.

Services

TAC can help if you have questions about a tax bill, IRS audit, or need help resolving a tax problem. If the TAC doesn’t have employees that can help, you will receive a referral.

Taxpayer Advocate Service employees may also be available to help with some issues at some locations.

Professional interpretation will be available in many languages through an over-the-phone translation service. For deaf or hard of hearing individuals who need sign language interpreter services, IRS staff will schedule appointments for a later date. Alternatively, you can call TTY/TDD 800-829-4059 to make an appointment.
