A 20-Acre Countryside Estate In Western Michigan Seeks $2.5 Million

Real Estate

The Michigan countryside offers an escape from urban cares with a natural landscape dotted with green forests and lakes – and more lakes. (More than 10,000 if you only count those larger than five acres.)

This two-story estate home, built in 1990, sits on 20 acres on the western flank of the Lower Peninsula, near the town of Fremont. The spread contains a pond, fenced pastures and equestrian facilities including a heated barn with two stalls and small holding paddocks.

A brick walkway leads to the home’s wide front porch, which is supported by white columns. The red brick façade at the entry gives way to dark gray horizontal planks that wrap the rest of the house. The foyer opens to a central stairway.

Tall small-paned windows and a chair rail add a touch of formality in the dining room. The chair rail continues in the family room, which contains a brick fireplace and built-ins.

The vaulted ceiling living room has a stone corner fireplace and opens to a wrap-around deck that steps down to the backyard.

The roomy kitchen features a center island and wine storage. A less formal dining area has a wet bar and a fireplace.

The recently remodeled upper floor features vaulted ceilings with thick wooden beams, new hardwood flooring and new carpets.

The 7,042-square-foot main house also contains a bonus room, a walk-out basement, six bedrooms and eight bathrooms.

When combined with the three outbuildings – one of which is a commercial catering kitchen – the living space totals more than 10,000 square feet.

In the landscaped backyard, a footbridge passes over a stream that creates a waterfall.

The property has deeded access to nearby Fourth Lake.
