Island Villa Near Stockholm, Sweden, Offers The Best Of Nature And City

Real Estate

Vaxholm, a municipality made up of several islands in Sweden’s Stockholm archipelago, became a popular spa town and summertime destination in the late 19th century, filled with second homes and small cottages.

The getaway draw continues today among those seeking an undisturbed place to enjoy the water and the great outdoors.

This archetypal villa, characteristic of island homes, sits up on a hilly site surrounded by pine trees and Ice Age-shaped stone slabs on the island of Tynningö, which has a population of about 350 full-time residents.

“A number of commuter services will take you to the very center of Stockholm in an hour,” says listing agent Gunilla Zaar of Shaza Luxury Real Estate. “It’s the perfect choice for those wanting to practice water sports, hiking, golf, boating, etc. and still be close to Stockholm with its full range of culture, shopping and entertainment.”

A private jetty on the home site makes recreation pursuits convenient. The property includes a beach facing the bay and the historic center of Vaxholm.

Adjacent to the main house is a south-facing patio with a blue-tiled swimming pool, outdoor kitchen and wooden deck—a portion of which is covered.

Since the house was built in the 1980s it has been remodeled twice. The square footage was expanded in 2007 and an upper floor was added in 2017 for a total of three bedrooms and two bathrooms. The usable living space is estimated to be about 144 meters or more than 1,700 square feet.

Windows from all sides of the house take in views of the forest and lake. Vaulted ceilings and wood floors are among interior details.

There are wood-burning fireplaces in the living room, study and upstairs bedroom.

The property includes a storehouse near the villa and an outbuilding by the jetty for storing canoes and fishing gear. The site, at 10,935 square meters or 2.7 acres, has the potential for further development.

For asking price for Norra Tynningövägen 5, Vaxholm, Sweden, €2 million or close to US $2 million.

Stockholm is served by four international airports. The largest, Stockholm Arlanda Airport, is about 44 kilometers or about 27 miles, from the city center.
