In San Miguel De Allende, A Lush Oasis Near Parque Juárez Offers Space To Unwind

Real Estate

Casa Cañdita is a lush estate found in Mexico’s central highlands northwest of Mexico City. Designed as a versatile garden oasis, the property could function as an extended compound for family and friends or operated as a boutique hotel, according to listing agent Jessica Patterson.

From artisan markets to art studios, the vibrant spot has become a popular destination for travelers looking to soak in the 16th century architecture and old world charm.

“Part of what makes this house so special is that the location is fabulous,” says Patterson, a real estate specialist with CDR San Miguel. “It is surrounded by a lot of greenery, but also with beautiful views of San Miguel de Allende.”

The main house has five bedrooms, four of which have stunning views of Parroquia de San Miguel Arcángel, the towering pink church that serves as one of the most distinctive landmarks in town. There is also a separate casita designed for guests or extended family.

“The casita has one bedroom and a kitchen so it would be a great home for a family with kids for sure,” she adds. “It would also be perfect for a couple who loves to entertain a lot.” With a living area separate from the bedrooms, the agent believes the home could even function as a B&B (Bed and Breakfast).

It is located just five minutes from Parque Juárez, a garden oasis in San Miguel. “The location, Spanish-Colonial style, the size of the home and its privacy are the most appealing features of this property,” Patterson shares. “There are high ceilings throughout and the ceiling in the living room has been stenciled which makes it very unique. The home features a really nice, classic style with boveda-style (brick with exposed beam) ceilings.”

In front of the main home, a winding stone staircase leads to the manicured grounds and pool area with bamboo grove. According to the agent, the outdoor area is “very lush with gardens” and has “a fabulous pool.”

Patterson notes that the outdoor setting was designed by Tim Wachter, a landscape architect known for his garden creations. “[Wachter] uses lots of fountains and water features that provide for a beautiful and relaxing sound while you are relaxing in the yard.” With the addition of the fire pit in the backyard, the design of Casa Cañadita’s garden combines all elements.

The spacious eat-in kitchen boasts granite countertops, custom cabinets and arched windows to let in an abundance of natural light. A nearby dining room features beautiful garden views on both sides.

The primary suite has enormous walk-in closets, a built-in dressing table and boveda-style ceiling. On warmer days, you can enjoy morning coffee on the large covered terrace or warm up near the in-suite fireplace on cooler nights.

A secondary suite features a bathroom with a round shower inside a tower and also has a terrace and fireplace. Three more bedrooms also come complete with private terraces that overlook the pool area.

The asking price for Casa Cañadita is $2.195 million.
