The place where comedian Jerry Seinfeld lived—or didn’t, depending how you look at it—during most of his years filming his famous sitcom has come back on the market with several adjoining parcels also available for sale. Seinfeld purchased the home for $2.8 million in 1992, just a few years into the run of his successful t.v. show and sold it for $3.2 million to an executive producer of the show in 1998 not long after the series ended. The comedian quipped during a 60 Minutes interview that the home was a ‘waste of money’ because he had had barely spent any time living there given how much time he spent at work.
The current seller is Leslie Peter Benzies, lead developer for the “Grand Theft Auto” video game series and former president of Rockstar North. Benzies had previously listed the home and three additional parcels totaling almost an acre in land for a combined $40 million in 2017. The main property is asking $14.95 million and two of the other parcels for sale are asking $5.495 million and $4.95 million. There are approved permits and plans in place to build on the land, which can be provided to interested buyers says listing agent Jonathan Nash of Hilton & Hyland. He has co-listed the property Stephen Resnick of the same brokerage.
The properties are being being marketed as The Sierra Mar Collection, inspired by its street name, and will enter the market publicly by this weekend but is being reported on here first.
“When you walk through the front door into the courtyard you’re immediately faced with that drop dead gorgeous view because it sits on a promontory. It is on the top of a hill so all you have is jetliner views. And that really is a huge selling point here in LA.,” says Nash.
The four bed, six bath main house is just under 6,000 square feet with a guest house that has separate access providing an additional one bedroom and one bath. As is consistent with many other high-end Los Angeles contemporary homes, several of the exterior walls are retractable to create living spaces that bridge the indoor rooms with the outdoor patios.
